The Epiphone Kirk Hammett 1979 Flying V, Ebony is a tribute to one of the most iconic heavy metal guitars in history. This instrument holds a special place in the hearts of Metallica fans all over the world, as it was Kirk Hammett's first Gibson guitar and played a crucial role in shaping the band's early sound. Crafted in collaboration with the Gibson Custom Shop, the Epiphone Kirk Hammett 1979 Flying V is a faithful recreation of Kirk's beloved original. It features a solid mahogany body and a one-piece mahogany neck with a volute, ensuring a robust and resonant tone. The Grover Rotomatic machine heads with "spade" buttons provide smooth and reliable tuning stability.
Equipped with a pair of Gibson USA Calibrated T-Type humbucker pickups, the Kirk Hammett Flying V delivers the powerful and dynamic tones that have become synonymous with Kirk's signature sound. Wired to CTS potentiometers and an Orange Drop capacitor, the electronics offer unrivalled control and tonal versatility. Complete with a Kirk Hammett logo on the rear of the headstock and a black hardshell case with a striking red plush interior, the Epiphone Kirk Hammett 1979 Flying V is the ultimate instrument for any serious Metallica fan or guitar aficionado.
Built with heritage
The Epiphone Kirk Hammett 1979 Flying V in Ebony is a guitar that pays homage to the iconic instrument that kick-started Kirk's love affair with Gibson. This model, which Kirk still plays today, is a faithful replica of the original 1979 Flying V that he used on all of the early Metallica albums. Crafted to high standards, this guitar features a solid Mahogany body finished in a period-correct Ebony. The 70's spec pickguard adds a touch of vintage flair and creates a striking visual contrast against the body colour. Not only does this Flying V look amazing, but it also boasts exceptional balance and weight distribution, meaning you won't have to worry about neck dive while playing.
Comfortable V shape
The Epiphone Kirk Hammett 1979 Flying V is designed for comfort and playability. Its 24.75” Mahogany neck provides a familiar feel and is complemented by an Indian Laurel fingerboard with a vintage spec radius, 22 frets, and traditional dot inlays. Navigating the neck is a breeze, making it perfect for nailing those blistering Metallica solos. The combination of the Mahogany neck and Indian Laurel fingerboard creates a smooth and responsive playing surface that allows for effortless shredding. To further enhance its playability, this Flying V is equipped with a custom replica bridge and stopbar tailpiece, as well as Grover Rotomatic tuners, ensuring rock-solid tuning stability.
Gibson USA humbuckers for iconic tone
Equipped with two Gibson USA Calibrated T-Type humbuckers, these pickups are replicas of the famous seventies pickups that Kirk used before switching to active pickups. With namesake T-engraving in the bobbin, these dual coils capture the sound character of the original pickups, allowing you to achieve the unique Metallica sound of the late eighties, as heard on albums like "Master of Puppets" and "Ride the Lightning." The wiring of this guitar is also top-notch, featuring high-quality potentiometers from CTS and real Orange Drop capacitors. With a pair of volume controls and a master tone control, you have full control over shaping your sound to your own preferences.
