A beautiful example of one of Taylor’s flagship Grand Auditorium models, this 2015 Taylor 814ce combines premium tonewoods, elegant detailing and superb playability in one of the company’s most versatile acoustic designs.

 

Built in the USA, the 814ce has long been a favourite among serious acoustic players because it manages to balance warmth, clarity and projection exceptionally well. The Grand Auditorium body is large enough to produce a rich, full acoustic voice, but remains comfortable and responsive enough for fingerstyle, flatpicking and strumming.

 

This particular guitar is finished in Natural Gloss and features a solid Sitka spruce top paired with solid Indian rosewood back and sides. It is a stunning combination visually, but more importantly it delivers that classic rosewood acoustic character with a strong low end, clear treble response and plenty of detail through the midrange.

 

At £2,295, this is a superb opportunity to own a high-end American-made Taylor 800 Series guitar with its original hardshell case and paperwork.

 

Condition

 

The guitar is in excellent overall condition and has clearly been looked after.

 

There is one very small ding to the front edge of the top which we have photographed closely. Beyond this, we can see only the sort of very minor handling marks, light surface blemishes and minimal playwear you would reasonably expect on an instrument of this age.

 

There are no significant knocks, cracks or areas of heavy wear that we can see.

 

The gloss finish remains exceptionally attractive, particularly across the Indian rosewood back and sides, which show some beautiful figuring.

 

The original Taylor hardshell case is also in excellent condition and the guitar is supplied with the paperwork shown in our photographs.

Solid Sitka Spruce & Indian Rosewood

 

At the heart of the 814ce is one of the most respected acoustic tonewood combinations available.

 

The solid Sitka spruce top gives the guitar excellent dynamic range, articulation and headroom. It responds well to a light touch but can also be driven hard without becoming overly compressed.

 

The solid Indian rosewood back and sides add depth, harmonic complexity and a beautifully extended bass and treble response.

 

Together they give the 814ce a rich, sophisticated acoustic voice that suits everything from intricate fingerstyle playing to open-chord accompaniment and full-bodied strumming.

 

Grand Auditorium Body

 

Taylor’s Grand Auditorium shape is arguably the company’s defining body design.

 

It sits between a traditional dreadnought and smaller concert-style acoustic, offering excellent projection without feeling cumbersome. The narrower waist helps keep the guitar comfortable, while the lower bout provides enough air volume for a powerful and rounded acoustic response.

 

The Venetian cutaway also provides easy access to the upper frets without compromising the elegant shape of the instrument.

 

Advanced Performance Bracing

 

This generation of 814ce uses Taylor’s Advanced Performance bracing, designed to give the guitar greater responsiveness, projection and tonal balance.

 

It helps the spruce top move efficiently while retaining control across the frequency range, contributing to the model’s combination of clarity, sustain and impressive dynamic range.

 

Expression System 2 Electronics

 

The 814ce is fitted with Taylor’s Expression System 2, an innovative behind-the-saddle pickup design developed to capture a more natural representation of the guitar’s acoustic voice.

 

Rather than relying on a conventional under-saddle piezo arrangement, the ES2 uses three individually positioned pickup sensors behind the saddle.

 

The familiar Taylor three-knob control system provides:
