This is about as close to buying new as you’ll get without paying the new price.

This Gretsch G5420T Electromatic Classic Single-Cut is finished in classic Orange and has had an incredibly easy life. It has had one owner from new, has only been picked up a handful of times at home, and remains in near-mint condition.

The plastics are still on the pickguard, the original paper bridge tag is still in place, and cosmetically there is very little to separate it from a shop-fresh example. We have found one tiny mark on the headstock, shown in the photographs, but beyond that it presents exceptionally well.

With a current RRP of around £749, this one is priced at £599, giving you a very healthy saving on a guitar that has barely seen any use.

The G5420T is one of the most recognisable models in the Gretsch Electromatic range, combining the classic full hollow-body look with a specification that makes it far more practical than many traditional hollow-body designs.

The laminated maple body features trestle block bracing, helping to keep things controlled when you start turning the volume and gain up, while still retaining the open, resonant character you want from a Gretsch hollow body.

A comfortable Classic “C” maple neck and 12” radius laurel fingerboard make it easy to get around, while the pair of FT-5E Filter’Tron pickups deliver that familiar Gretsch mix of clarity, punch and definition. Clean sounds have plenty of sparkle and articulation, while driven tones retain their separation without turning muddy.

And of course, it would not be this style of Gretsch without the Bigsby B60 vibrato, giving you those smooth shimmers, subtle bends and unmistakable visual appeal.

It’s a guitar that works beautifully for rockabilly, blues, country, jazz, indie and classic rock, but ultimately it is just an extremely versatile and characterful instrument.
