A very unusual and seriously impressive electro-acoustic from Enya, combining an almost entirely carbon-fibre construction with onboard effects, USB charging and a compact 36” body.

 

This is the X4 Pro Mini/EQ, the 3/4-size version of Enya’s premium X4 Pro. The standout feature is its R.S.B. carbon construction, with Enya specifying the top as being made from 95% carbon-fibre composite. The back and sides are carbon-fibre composite too, while the carbon-fibre composite neck is internally reinforced with aluminium for additional strength and stability.

 

Carbon fibre makes a lot of sense on an acoustic guitar, particularly one designed to travel. It is far less affected by temperature and humidity changes than a traditional wooden instrument, while also being extremely rigid and resistant to warping and cracking. Enya has designed the X4 Pro around the material rather than simply using it for novelty value, including an elevated neck arrangement intended to allow the top to vibrate more freely.

 

And it genuinely sounds very good. It has plenty of projection acoustically with a clear, balanced response, and plugged in the Enya AcousticPlus system gives it another dimension altogether.

 

The onboard system includes reverb, chorus and delay, plus a tuner, volume and mic controls. The effects can even be heard from the guitar itself without plugging into an amplifier, making it great for casual playing, travelling or sitting on the sofa without needing any additional equipment. The system is rechargeable via USB-C.

 

Being the Mini version, it measures approximately 36 inches overall with a 24-inch scale, making it considerably easier to transport than a conventional full-size acoustic without feeling like a toy or beginner instrument. Enya quotes the X4 Pro Mini at around 4.95lb.

 

This example is in near mint used condition.

 

There are some very light surface and handling marks if examined closely under strong lighting, as you would expect from a guitar that has been played, but there is no notable damage and cosmetically it presents extremely well. The gloss patterned carbon top in particular looks superb.

 

It plays beautifully too, with a comfortable neck, low easy action and a very modern feel.
