A genuinely rare and highly desirable 2003 Gibson Les Paul Voodoo from the original first release, presented in outstanding cherished condition and complete with its original Gibson snakeskin hard case and original documentation still sealed in the bag.

 

This is the version collectors want. The original early-2000s Voodoo was a much more distinctive and higher-spec instrument than the later 2016 reissue, featuring a swamp ash body, ebony fingerboard, red pearl Voodoo skull inlay at the 5th fret, black chrome hardware, and the original Gibson Voodoo Rhythm Double Slug and Voodoo Lead Double Slug humbuckers.

 

The finish is one of the defining features of this model. Gibson’s JuJu finish starts with the swamp ash body finished in deep ebony black, before being rubbed with red grain filler. The red catches dramatically in the open ash grain before being sealed, creating that unmistakable dark, textured Voodoo look. This is not simply a matte black Les Paul. It has depth, grain, menace and a finish completely tied to this rare limited-run series.

 

This example is exceptional. At over 20 years old, it has clearly been cherished and carefully stored, showing only a few tiny marks and light signs of careful play wear. The original snakeskin hard case is present, the original documents are still sealed, and the guitar has the feel of a very special limited-run Gibson rather than a heavily used player.

 

The ebony fingerboard feels slick and fast under the hand, while the original Voodoo Double Slug humbuckers give the guitar a powerful, focused voice with plenty of bite, sustain and attitude. It still has the weight, authority and feel you want from a USA Les Paul, but with a darker, rarer and much more individual character than a standard model.

 

Weighing 9lb exactly, it feels substantial without being excessive, with the resonance and authority you would expect from a serious USA Gibson.

 

Original 2003 Les Paul Voodoos are already rare, but clean, complete examples with the snakeskin case and sealed documents are becoming very difficult to find. This is a serious Gibson for the collector, player or fan of limited-run USA models who wants the right version, in the right condition, with the right case.
