The Roland CUBE Street EX is one of those pieces of gear that makes an enormous amount of sense once you start using one. Designed primarily for buskers, street performers and mobile musicians, it combines a powerful 50-watt stereo amplifier, four-channel mixer, guitar amp modelling, vocal inputs and battery operation in one genuinely portable unit.

 

Despite its relatively compact size, the CUBE Street EX delivers an impressive amount of sound through two 8-inch woofers and two 2-inch tweeters, giving it the projection and clarity to work as much more than simply a small practice amp.

 

It can be used for vocals, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, backing tracks and other audio sources simultaneously, making it a superb choice for solo performers, duos, buskers, rehearsals, small gigs, presentations or simply anyone wanting a completely self-contained portable PA system.

 

Four-Channel Versatility

 

The CUBE Street EX offers four independent channels with plenty of connectivity.

 

There are two XLR/TRS combo inputs suitable for microphones and instruments, including dedicated guitar facilities with Roland’s COSM amp modelling. Electric guitar players can choose between Clean, Crunch and Lead sounds, alongside an Acoustic Simulator, while there is also a dedicated acoustic guitar preamp.

 

Separate EQ and reverb controls give plenty of control over vocals and instruments, while onboard chorus/delay and reverb effects add further flexibility.

 

Stereo Line In, Audio In and additional connectivity allow backing tracks, drum machines, phones and other devices to be incorporated into a performance setup.

 

50 Watts From AA Batteries

 

One of the biggest attractions of the CUBE Street EX is its ability to operate completely away from mains power.

 

It offers three selectable output levels:

 

Max: 50 watts

Normal: 25 watts

Eco: 10 watts

 

Roland quotes battery life of up to approximately 20 hours in Eco mode when using suitable rechargeable AA Ni-MH batteries.

 

This particular example has been fully tested by us and is currently operating perfectly on battery power.

 

Condition

 

This is a used example in very good overall condition.

 

It has seen some use and there are light cosmetic signs of age and handling around the cabinet, grille and hardware, but nothing excessive. Overall it presents very well for a piece of portable equipment designed to be carried and used.

 

Most importantly, it has been tested and works exactly as it should.

No AC power adapter, mains lead or other cables are included with this amplifier.

 

The unit is currently being used and tested by us on AA battery power and operates correctly in this configuration.

 

A compatible Roland power adapter can be sourced separately if mains operation is required.
