This is a seriously upgraded example of the much-loved Squier Classic Vibe ’50s Telecaster, finished in the classic Butterscotch Blonde with a maple neck and blackguard styling.

 

Before we go any further, there is one particularly important point to make absolutely clear:

 

THIS IS A GENUINE SQUIER CLASSIC VIBE ’50s TELECASTER. IT IS NOT A FENDER TELECASTER.

 

A previous owner has replaced the original Squier headstock decal with a Fender-style Telecaster decal and has also fitted a Fender-branded Corona California neck plate. These are cosmetic changes only. We are selling and describing the instrument for exactly what it is: a 2015 Squier Classic Vibe ’50s Telecaster which has subsequently been heavily upgraded.

 

And the upgrades are where this one gets particularly interesting.

 

The previous owner was a luthier and has taken what was already one of Squier’s most highly regarded Telecasters and substantially upgraded the electronics, including a pair of genuine Fender Custom Shop Telecaster pickups.

 

We have removed and photographed the pickups so buyers can see the underside and Fender Custom Shop identification for themselves. We have not been able to positively identify the precise Custom Shop pickup set, so we’re not going to guess whether they are Blackguard, Nocaster, etc. What we can confirm is that they are Fender Custom Shop pickups, and they’re a considerable upgrade over the original Squier units.

 

Upgraded Electronics

 

Under the control plate you’ll also find significantly upgraded wiring and components, including:

 

* Genuine Fender Custom Shop Telecaster pickups

* Upgraded full-size potentiometers

* Cloth-covered vintage-style wiring

* Large upgraded capacitor

* Traditional 3-way Telecaster switching

* Fender-style upgraded electronics throughout

 

There’s a substantial amount of money in the parts alone here, never mind the work involved in fitting everything.

 

The bridge retains the vintage Telecaster look with its three brass saddles and strings-through-body arrangement, and the whole guitar has that classic Butterscotch Blonde, maple-board and blackguard combination that suits a ’50s-style Tele perfectly.

 

It weighs 9 lb 0.7 oz on our scales.

 

Condition

 

Overall this guitar is in near-mint used condition for its age.

 

There are a handful of small dings, light marks and signs of handling which we have deliberately photographed closely. Nothing here is particularly concerning, and overall it presents extremely well for a 2015 instrument.

 

There are also the expected light marks to the black scratchplate.

 

As mentioned above, the headstock decal and Fender neck plate are later cosmetic changes carried out by a previous owner and are not original Squier components.
