✨ Fender Limited Edition Roasted Player Stratocaster 2023 Black + Custom Shop Fat ’60s Pickups ✨

A very nice limited-run Player Stratocaster with a specification that sits well above the standard model.

 

This is the 2023 Fender Limited Edition Roasted Player Stratocaster in Black, fitted from the factory with a roasted maple neck and a full set of Fender Custom Shop Fat ’60s Stratocaster pickups.

 

That combination is the main attraction here. You still get the familiar feel and straightforward usability of a Player Strat, but with one of Fender’s more desirable neck treatments and a much better pickup set than you would normally find on a standard Player Series guitar.

 

It also carries the Fender Custom Shop neck plate, which suits the upgraded factory specification nicely.

 

The black body, white pearloid pickguard and roasted maple / pau ferro combination works really well visually, and the current owner has also added chrome pickup covers. We think they suit the guitar and give it a slightly different look, but they are of course removable if the next owner prefers the more traditional Strat appearance.

 

Custom Shop Fat ’60s Pickups

 

This guitar is fitted with a full set of Fender Custom Shop Fat ’60s single coils, with the middle pickup reverse-wound/reverse-polarity.

 

They are designed to give a slightly fuller take on classic ’60s Strat tones, retaining the clear top end and glassy character you expect from a Strat while adding a little more body through the mids.

 

The result is a very usable Strat sound across all five positions, from clean neck tones through the familiar in-between sounds to a bridge pickup that has a little more substance than many vintage-style sets.

 

For anyone looking at a Player Strat but already thinking about upgrading the pickups, this one makes a lot of sense.

 

Roasted Maple Neck

 

The roasted maple neck is another big part of what makes this limited edition different from the standard Player model.

 

It uses Fender’s familiar Modern C profile, with a 9.5” fingerboard radius, 22 medium-jumbo frets and a pau ferro fingerboard.

 

The roasted maple gives the neck a darker, more figured appearance than standard maple and feels very nice in the hand.

 

Condition

 

This is a one-owner guitar and has seen very little actual playing use.

 

The body is in excellent, near-mint condition and presents extremely well, with no notable body damage visible in the photographs.

 

The frets are also in excellent condition and show very little evidence of use.

 

The main cosmetic wear is confined to the neck and headstock.

 

There are a few areas where the finish has chipped away on the back and edges of the headstock, together with a small mark to the rear of the neck. These are all shown clearly in the close-up photographs.

 

They are cosmetic rather than structural and do not affect how the guitar plays, but they are noticeable enough that we want to describe them properly rather than simply calling the guitar mint overall.

 

Aside from those marks, this remains a very clean and lightly used example.
