A seriously cool addition to Jackson’s JS Series, the JS22 Surfcaster HT takes the familiar offset silhouette and gives it the full Jackson treatment.

 

Finished in Snow White with contrasting black hardware, this is a modern, stripped-back guitar built for players who want something a little different from the usual superstrat. It looks sharp, feels fast and comes loaded with a pair of high-output Jackson humbuckers for plenty of punch when the gain goes up.

 

This example is an ex-demo guitar and is in excellent overall condition. There are some light handling marks from shop display/use, but nothing significant and it presents extremely well, as the photographs show.

 

At £229, it offers a lot of guitar for the money.

 

Modern Offset Design

 

The Surfcaster uses a sleek offset poplar body, giving it a distinctive look without sacrificing comfort. The Snow White finish works brilliantly against the black pickups, bridge, controls and tuners.

 

The bolt-on maple neck is paired with a bound amaranth fingerboard and Jackson’s 12”-16” compound radius, making the lower register comfortable for chords while flattening out further up the neck for bends and faster lead work.

 

A sculpted neck heel also helps make the upper frets easy to reach.

 

Jackson High-Output Humbuckers

 

A pair of Jackson high-output humbuckers give the JS22 plenty of output and a strong, focused voice.

 

There’s enough clarity for cleaner sounds, but this guitar is particularly at home with distortion, delivering chunky rhythm tones, hard rock crunch and saturated lead sounds.

 

Controls are deliberately straightforward:

Hardtail Simplicity

 

Rather than a tremolo system, the JS22 Surfcaster uses a Jackson hardtail bridge, keeping things uncomplicated and providing solid tuning stability and straightforward maintenance.

The guitar has some light handling marks consistent with having been displayed and played in the shop. There is nothing significant affecting its appearance, playability or operation.

 

Overall it remains an extremely clean example.
