One of the biggest selling points of the St. James series is its remarkably low weight. Blackstar developed the range specifically to deliver the sound, response and feel of a full-size valve amplifier without the usual bulk, and this combo weighs just 12.8kg.

 

As the top panel proudly states, it was designed as “The Lightest 50W Valve Amp in the World.”

 

That makes it a particularly appealing choice for players who want a genuine 50 watt valve combo without having to haul around a traditional heavy valve amp.

 

This particular example has seen very light home use only and remains in near-mint condition, with just a few very minor cosmetic marks from careful ownership. It has been extremely well looked after and presents beautifully.

The St. James 6L6 is one of the most versatile models in the range, combining classic American-inspired clean tones with a more modern, high-gain second channel.

 

Channel 1 is voiced around bright, articulate clean sounds with excellent low-end definition and plenty of headroom, while Channel 2 offers a tighter and more aggressive overdrive character with strong mids and plenty of gain.

 

The additional Voice option further revoices the overdriven preamp for more saturation and a looser, more contemporary high-gain response.

Built-In Reactive Load & Cab Rig

 

Another major advantage of the St. James platform is the built-in reactive load, allowing the amplifier to be run without a speaker connected.

 

Combined with Blackstar’s Cab Rig cabinet simulation technology, this makes the amp extremely useful for silent recording, direct-to-PA use and studio work without needing an additional external load box.

 

USB and balanced XLR outputs further expand the recording and live options.

 

50W, 2W & Sag Modes

 

The selectable power modes make the St. James far more practical than many traditional 50 watt valve combos.

 

50W mode provides maximum headroom and output for rehearsal and live use.

 

2W mode allows the amp to be pushed harder at much more manageable home and studio volume levels.

 

Sag mode introduces additional power-supply compression for a softer, more vintage-style response.

 

This makes it equally comfortable at home, in the studio, at rehearsal or on stage.

This example has had home use only and remains in near-mint condition.

 

There are just a few slight cosmetic marks from careful use, but nothing significant. The cabinet, grille, controls and fittings all present extremely well.
