Chordplay Guitars are delighted to welcome Baton Rouge Guitars to the shop, and this X6C/AC-AF Andrew Foy Signature model is a superb introduction to the range.

 

Designed in collaboration with acclaimed fingerstyle guitarist Andrew Foy, the X6C/AC-AF combines an Auditorium body with a sharp Florentine cutaway, a solid Canadian cedar top and beautifully figured exotic mahogany back and sides. It is an exceptionally attractive instrument, but there is far more going on here than looks alone.

 

The solid cedar top gives the guitar a warm, responsive character with plenty of sensitivity to a lighter touch, while the Auditorium body offers a comfortable, balanced feel that works particularly well for fingerstyle playing, acoustic arrangements and more detailed chord work.

 

The exotic mahogany used across the back and sides is especially striking on this example, with strong figuring running across the body. Maple binding gives the guitar a clean contrast around the edges, while the distinctive Florentine cutaway gives excellent access further up the fingerboard.

 

The neck is mahogany with a 630mm scale length and a comfortable 43mm nut width, paired with an ovangkol fingerboard and bridge. A bone nut and saddle, gold die-cast machine heads and factory-fitted Elixir strings round out a specification that is excellent at this price point.

 

The open-pore finish is a particularly nice touch. Rather than covering the timber beneath a heavy gloss, it leaves the guitar with a more natural, tactile feel while allowing the grain and figuring of the woods to remain a major part of the instrument’s appearance.
