2013 Epiphone Masterbilt DR-500MCE/NA Electro Acoustic β All Solid Woods
Β
A superb example of one of Epiphoneβs highly regarded Masterbilt acoustics, and a guitar that offers an enormous amount for the money.
Β
This 2013 Epiphone Masterbilt DR-500MCE/NA combines traditional all-solid acoustic construction with a cutaway dreadnought body and Epiphoneβs sophisticated eSonic2 dual-source electronics system. These have built up a strong following for good reason. They are beautifully made, powerful acoustically and exceptionally useful on stage.
Β
Unlike many guitars around this price point, the DR-500MCE uses solid tonewoods throughout, with a solid Sitka spruce top paired with solid mahogany back and sides. There are no laminate back and sides hiding underneath the gloss here.
Β
The result is a big, open dreadnought voice with excellent projection, strong low end and plenty of clarity through the mids and trebles.
Β
Condition
Β
This is a cherished 2013 example in generally excellent condition.
Β
It has clearly been looked after throughout its life and presents extremely well for a guitar now over a decade old. There are some light surface marks and normal signs of careful play and handling, but nothing we would consider excessive or concerning.
Β
The gloss finish remains extremely attractive, with the spruce top taking on a lovely warm colour and the mahogany back and sides looking particularly impressive.
Β
It has also just received:
Β
* New strings
* Fretboard cleaned and oiled
* Frets polished
* Fresh battery fitted
Β
It is ready to play and enjoy.
Β
Please study the photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
Β
All-Solid Masterbilt Construction
Β
The Masterbilt range was designed to offer something considerably more traditional than a typical mass-produced electro acoustic.
Β
This guitar features a solid Sitka spruce top, solid mahogany back and sides, scalloped bracing and a glued dovetail neck joint.
Β
That construction gives the guitar a lively, resonant acoustic response and means it should continue developing tonally as the solid woods mature.
Β
The body is a full-sized dreadnought with a Venetian cutaway, giving plenty of acoustic volume while still allowing easy access further up the fingerboard.
Β
Epiphone eSonic2 Electronics
Β
It is worth highlighting that this particular guitar is fitted with the excellent Epiphone eSonic2 system, rather than the simpler electronics sometimes listed against later DR-500MCE specifications.
Β
The system combines two different pickup sources:
Β
NanoFlex captures vibration from beneath the saddle, providing the attack and body associated with a traditional undersaddle acoustic pickup.
Β
NanoMag is positioned at the end of the fingerboard and captures the strings magnetically, adding warmth and a more natural, rounded character.
Β
The onboard eSonic2 preamp allows the two sources to be blended to taste, with individual controls plus EQ, phase control and a built-in chromatic tuner.
Β
It makes this a particularly versatile electro acoustic for live use, where you can tailor the balance depending on the room, amplification and playing style.
Β
Neck & Fingerboard
Β
The mahogany neck has Epiphoneβs comfortable SlimTaper D profile, giving it an easy, familiar feel without becoming overly thin.
Β
The rosewood fingerboard features the attractive split-diamond pearl inlays associated with the Masterbilt range, while the bound neck, multi-ring rosette and ornate headstock detailing give the guitar a considerably more expensive appearance.
Β
A 25.5-inch scale length gives the guitar plenty of snap and projection while retaining a familiar acoustic feel.
