This 2014 Melody Maker is part of Gibson’s 120th Anniversary range, featuring the commemorative 12th fret inlay and a deliberately simple, player-focused spec. It’s built with a thin-profile mahogany body and maple top, keeping the weight right down and the feel incredibly lively in the hands 

Coming in at just 7lb 4oz, this is one of those guitars you can wear all night without even thinking about it — and it really rings out acoustically.

The pair of Gibson P-90 pickups give it that raw, articulate edge — somewhere between single-coil snap and full-bodied punch. Bright, clear and aggressive when pushed, but cleans up beautifully on the neck. A seriously versatile setup that suits everything from indie and blues through to proper driven rock tones 

The neck is a comfortable 50s rounded profile, paired with a rosewood board and 120th Anniversary inlay — classic feel without being oversized, and very easy to get along with.

Condition

This one’s been played — and it shows in all the right ways.

The thin nitro satin finish that Gibson used on these is designed to wear in quickly, and this guitar has done exactly that. There are numerous chips, edge wear and marks across the body, particularly around the edges and lower bout (see photos).

Importantly — this is purely cosmetic. No structural issues, no repairs, no breaks. Just honest wear that gives it that worn-in, “already gigged” look straight out of the case.

In hand, it feels like a guitar that’s already been loved and opened up — not something you’re scared to play.
