π₯ Epiphone 1964 SG Standard with Maestro Vibrola Reissue, Cherry Red, 2025 π₯ Save Β£200 on the usual Β£999 RRP This is a seriously impressive SG and one of the strongest models to come out of the Inspired by Gibson Custom range. Built in collaboration with Gibson Custom, the Epiphone 1964 SG Standard with Maestro Vibrola Reissue recreates the look, construction and feel of a mid-60s SG with some genuinely high-end appointments, including USA-made Gibson Custombucker pickups, CTS electronics, a long neck tenon and the unmistakable Maestro Vibrola. This particular guitar is a 2025 example and is in outstanding condition. It is about as close to buying new as you could realistically expect from a pre-owned guitar, with only the slightest evidence of handling. The only point really worth mentioning is some very minor tarnishing to the brushed nickel pickup covers, which we have photographed clearly. At Β£799, this represents a substantial saving against the usual Β£999 new price, without sacrificing the condition or presentation you would normally expect from a new instrument. Condition The guitar is in exceptional, near-new condition. There are no significant knocks, chips or damage that we can see. The finish remains beautifully clean and glossy, the frets show virtually no meaningful wear, and the hardware presents extremely well. There is some very light tarnishing to the brushed nickel pickup covers, visible in our close-up photographs. This is minor cosmetic ageing rather than damage. The guitar weighs 8lb 15oz. Please study the photographs carefully as they form part of the description. 1964 SG Reissue Construction Epiphone went far beyond simply giving this guitar a vintage-style finish. The body is constructed from mahogany with the familiar deep SG bevels, while the one-piece mahogany neck uses a long neck tenon, increasing the contact area between neck and body and helping contribute to the sustain and resonance associated with vintage-style set-neck construction. The neck uses a 1960s SlimTaper profile, giving it a fast, familiar SG feel without being excessively thin. The bound rosewood fingerboard features genuine mother-of-pearl trapezoid inlays, while the headstock uses Epiphoneβs Gibson-style open-book shape with aged mother-of-pearl Epiphone and crown inlays. It is a very convincing recreation visually, but more importantly it feels like a genuinely premium instrument rather than simply a cosmetically upgraded Epiphone. USA Gibson Custombucker Pickups One of the biggest reasons this model stands apart from a standard Epiphone SG is the pickup set. It is fitted with a pair of USA-made Gibson Custombucker humbuckers with Alnico III magnets. These are based around the characteristics of vintage PAF-style Gibson humbuckers, delivering plenty of clarity and harmonic detail while retaining the warmth, openness and dynamic response associated with early Gibson electrics. The neck pickup is warm, rounded and articulate, while the bridge has plenty of bite and definition without becoming harsh. The electronics specification is equally impressive, with: * CTS potentiometers * Black Beauty paper-in-oil capacitors * Switchcraft pickup selector * Switchcraft output jack It is a much more sophisticated electronics package than you would normally expect at this price point. Maestro Vibrola The Maestro Vibrola is one of the defining features of this particular reissue. Introduced as a replacement for the earlier Sideways Vibrola arrangement, the Maestro gives the guitar a smoother and more usable vibrato system while retaining the visual character associated with classic SGs. The long engraved Lyre-style cover is one of the most recognisable pieces of Gibson hardware from the period and looks fantastic against the Cherry finish.
