🔥 Tokai Custom Limited Edition Les Paul Style Guitar, Abalone, Floyd Rose & Tonerider Generators 🔥

 

Something very different from Tokai, and one we have struggled to find another example of anywhere.

 

This striking Tokai Custom appears to be a rare, limited production model, believed to date from around 2009. With its deep gloss finish, extensive abalone detailing, locking tremolo system and upgraded Tonerider pickups, it is about as far removed from a conventional Les Paul-style guitar as you could get.

 

The first thing that catches your eye is the extraordinary amount of abalone decoration. The body is framed with abalone purfling, the fingerboard carries large abalone inlays with matching abalone edging, and the headstock receives the same treatment together with an elaborate centrepiece inlay and CUSTOM truss rod cover. It is an incredibly ornate guitar and looks fantastic under the light.

 

Adding to the unusual specification is a Floyd Rose-style double-locking tremolo, complete with locking nut and fine tuners. It gives the guitar a completely different character from a traditional single-cut and makes this a particularly interesting option for players who love the shape and feel of a Les Paul but want the flexibility of a locking trem.

 

The original pickups have also been replaced with an excellent matched pair of Tonerider Generator Zebra humbuckers:

 

Neck: Tonerider Generator TRH2N-ZA

Bridge: Tonerider Generator TRH2B-ZA

 

These are Tonerider’s hotter vintage-inspired humbuckers, giving the guitar plenty of power and definition while retaining warmth and clarity. The original Tonerider boxes are also included.

 

Other details include four knurled metal control knobs, twin humbuckers, three-way pickup selector, bound single-cut body and a highly figured dark fingerboard. The overall look is somewhere between traditional Custom styling and an unapologetically modern rock guitar.

 

Condition

 

For a guitar believed to be around 15 years old, this has clearly been cherished.

 

There are some light surface scratches, small handling marks and general player wear visible under close inspection, together with some tarnishing and age-related wear to the tremolo and other metal hardware. Nothing we would consider excessive for its age.

 

Importantly, there are no major chips to the finish, no structural breaks and no repairs that we are aware of. It remains a very attractive guitar with a deep, glossy finish, and the abalone work still looks superb.

 

The tremolo and electronics are working as they should and the guitar plays very nicely.

 

It comes with an older generic hard case. The case certainly isn’t the finest example we’ve ever seen, but it is functional, fits the guitar and does the job.

 

At £499 including the hard case, this represents a lot of guitar for the money, particularly for somebody looking for something that isn’t simply another conventional Les Paul-style instrument.
