An absolutely superb example of an early 1980 Greco EG500, sourced directly from Japan as part of our Chordplay Japan Select collection.

Japanese Les Paul style guitars from this era have become legendary amongst collectors and players alike, and for very good reason. Built during the height of the famed “lawsuit era”, these instruments earned a reputation for exceptional craftsmanship, outstanding attention to detail and incredible feel, often rivaling guitars costing significantly more today.

This particular example has all the character and vibe you would hope for from a genuine vintage Japanese instrument. Finished in classic black with cream binding and aged hardware, it delivers that unmistakable old school aesthetic with decades of honest ageing throughout.

The guitar appears to date from 1980 based on the serial number and also includes its original Japanese warranty paperwork, an increasingly rare and desirable addition.

Condition is very good for a 45 year old guitar and importantly it remains a fantastic player. It has clearly been used and enjoyed over the years rather than hidden away, giving it genuine vintage character throughout.

Cosmetically there are various marks, scratches, edge knocks and chips across the body and neck as shown in the photographs. The most noticeable wear is around the body edges and lower rear section where there are some larger chips and lacquer wear exposing the wood beneath. There are also scattered surface scratches and marks consistent with age and use. None of this affects playability whatsoever and in our opinion only adds to the authenticity and appeal of the instrument.

The neck appears straight, the frets still have plenty of life remaining and the guitar plays beautifully with that lively, resonant feel that great vintage Japanese guitars are known for.
