2003 Burns London Brian May Signature Red Special – Cherry Red

A superb example of the sought-after Burns London Brian May Signature Red Special, built in Korea in 2003. Produced between 2001 and 2004, these early Korean-made models have developed a fantastic reputation and are becoming increasingly collectible among players and Queen fans alike.

Faithfully recreating Brian May’s legendary Red Special, this guitar features an acoustically chambered mahogany body, a glued-in mahogany set neck and an ebony fingerboard with 24 frets plus a zero fret for smooth, effortless playability.

At the heart of the guitar are three Burns Tri-Sonic single-coil pickups, paired with the famous six-switch control system, allowing each pickup to be switched on or off individually, along with phase reversal switching. This unique wiring unlocks a huge range of tones, from sparkling cleans through to the unmistakable harmonically rich lead sounds associated with Brian May.

Hardware includes the original Burns vibrato bridge and Grover machine heads, providing excellent tuning stability while retaining the authentic Red Special feel.

This example has also benefited from a couple of excellent genuine Brian May upgrades. A genuine black Brian May bridge plate has been fitted beneath the bridge, along with upgraded Brian May-style control knobs sourced through the official Brian May range. These are desirable additions in their own right and really finish the guitar off beautifully.

Condition

This guitar was recently sold by us and unfortunately suffered a small amount of cosmetic damage during transit.

There is a chip to the front edge of the body beside the binding, clearly shown in the photographs. Importantly, this is cosmetic only and not structural. It also sits in the area where the player’s forearm naturally rests, so it is far less noticeable in normal playing position than the close-up photograph suggests.

Aside from this, the guitar remains a very attractive example for its age, with light scratches, minor cosmetic marks and honest play wear consistent with careful use.

It plays beautifully and everything functions exactly as it should.

Because of the cosmetic damage, we have reduced this guitar by £100 to a bargain £499 including UK delivery.

For anyone who values playability and originality over absolute cosmetic perfection, this represents a lot of guitar for the money.
