This is a seriously clean example of an early-2000s Korean Epiphone Les Paul Custom, and one that has clearly had a very easy life.

 

Built in 2003 at the respected Unsung factory in Korea, this is the classic Les Paul Custom recipe through and through: deep gloss black finish, full cream binding, split diamond headstock inlay, block fingerboard markers, twin humbuckers and gold hardware. It has that unmistakable black-and-gold Custom look, and even more than 20 years later this one still presents exceptionally well.

 

The Korean-built Epiphones from this period have developed a loyal following, and guitars from the Unsung factory in particular are increasingly sought after by players looking for an older Epiphone with plenty of character and a more traditional feel.

 

At approximately 9lb 4.8oz, this has the reassuringly substantial feel you want from a Les Paul without getting into exceptionally heavy territory.

 

Twin humbuckers, independent volume and tone controls and the traditional three-way selector give you the familiar Les Paul palette, from warm, rounded neck tones through to punchy bridge sounds with plenty of body and sustain.

 

What really separates this particular guitar, though, is its condition.

 

We see plenty of older black Les Paul Customs, and by this age the gold hardware is often heavily worn and the gloss black finish can show every mark imaginable. This one is noticeably cleaner than most. The binding remains bright, the front presents beautifully and even the hardware has survived remarkably well.

Condition

 

Exceptional used condition for a 2003 guitar.

 

It is increasingly difficult to find these older Korean Les Paul Customs looking this clean.

 

There are some light surface scratches, handling marks and general signs of play, including a few light marks to the rear, but nothing we would consider concerning for a guitar now over 20 years old.

 

The gold hardware shows some light age-related tarnishing and wear, but considerably less than we commonly see on examples from this period.

 

The gloss black finish inevitably reveals minor surface marks under strong lighting, but overall this guitar has been extremely well preserved and presents beautifully.

 

There are no significant dings or major cosmetic issues to highlight.
