This is a lot of guitar for the money.

 

A 2012 ESP LTD MH-100QM NT finished in See Thru Black Cherry, featuring a heavily figured quilted maple top, 24-fret neck, fixed Tune-O-Matic bridge and its original pair of ESP Designed humbuckers.

 

This one has also had a couple of tasteful cosmetic and practical upgrades. The original pickups remain fitted, but they now wear striking Guyker engraved skull pickup covers, which completely transform the look of the guitar. The original tuners have also been replaced with a set of gold locking tuners, a useful upgrade for quicker restringing and improved tuning stability.

 

The end result is a guitar that looks considerably more expensive than its £349 asking price.

 

See Thru Black Cherry Quilt

 

The finish is the first thing that grabs you.

 

ESP’s See Thru Black Cherry sits over a quilted maple top, with the figuring showing beautifully through the deep red finish. Depending on the light, it moves from darker wine-red areas through to much brighter cherry tones.

 

Add the gold hardware, matching controls and ornate pickup covers and this has become a very individual-looking MH.

 

Original ESP Designed Pickups

 

Importantly, despite the elaborate covers, the guitar retains its original ESP Designed LH-150 pickup set underneath.

 

You get an LH-150N at the neck and LH-150B at the bridge, a high-output humbucker combination designed to deliver plenty of punch for rock and heavier styles while remaining versatile enough for cleaner sounds.

 

Controls remain straightforward with master volume, master tone and a 3-way pickup selector.

 

Upgraded Locking Tuners

 

The factory tuners have been replaced with a set of gold locking machines.

 

Aside from matching the rest of the hardware nicely, they make string changes considerably easier and are a useful practical upgrade on a guitar designed for faster, heavier playing.

 

Construction & Playability

 

The MH-100QM uses a basswood body with quilted maple top, paired with a maple neck and rosewood fingerboard.

 

You get a full 25.5” scale length, 24 extra-jumbo frets and a 350mm fingerboard radius, giving the guitar a quick, modern feel with plenty of room at the top end of the neck.

 

The fixed Tune-O-Matic bridge also makes this a straightforward guitar to live with, particularly for players who don’t need a locking tremolo system.

 

It plays great and sounds great.

Condition

 

This is in excellent used condition for a 2012 guitar.

 

There are some light surface scratches, scuffs, handling marks and general signs of play visible when examined closely, particularly in areas of the highly reflective finish.

 

There are no significant knocks, no known structural issues and no neck repairs.

 

Overall, it has been very well preserved for a guitar now well over a decade old and still presents extremely well.
