2020 Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy Inspired by Gibson, Aged Jet Black Metallic

A striking and seriously versatile example of Epiphone’s Les Paul Prophecy, finished in Aged Jet Black Metallic and dating from 2020.

 

The Prophecy takes the familiar Les Paul formula and pushes it firmly into modern territory, combining the traditional mahogany body and carved maple top construction with a much faster neck, 24 frets, premium hardware and an exceptionally flexible Fishman Fluence pickup system.

 

This example presents very well overall. There is some light play wear, surface marking and a few areas where the satin finish has become slightly smoother or duller through use, along with some light ageing and marking to the hardware. Nothing particularly distracting, and the photographs have been taken to show the condition as clearly as possible. As with any used instrument, there may be tiny marks or signs of use that are difficult to capture under photography.

 

The Aged Jet Black Metallic finish works beautifully with the cream multi-ply binding, brushed nickel hardware, black pickup surrounds and distinctive abalone block and triangle inlays. It is unmistakably a Les Paul, but with a much more contemporary feel.

 

At the heart of the guitar is a pair of Fishman Fluence Epiphone Prophecy humbuckers. These offer three distinctly different voices, ranging from traditional warmer humbucker tones through to a hotter modern sound and a clearer single coil style voice. The push/pull volume and tone controls make the Prophecy exceptionally adaptable without cluttering the guitar with additional switches.

 

The neck is equally modern. Epiphone’s asymmetrical SlimTaper profile, ebony fingerboard and 24 jumbo frets give it a noticeably quicker and more contemporary playing feel than a traditional Les Paul. The body also incorporates ultra-modern weight relief, helping make it considerably more comfortable for longer playing sessions.

 

Hardware is equally impressive, with Grover locking Rotomatic tuners, a Graph Tech NuBone XL nut and Epiphone LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge and Stop Bar.

 

A very capable Les Paul that manages to cover traditional sounds extremely well while offering considerably more range than a conventional twin humbucker setup.

Condition

 

Used, presenting very well overall for its age. There is light surface scratching and general play wear, some areas of the finish showing slight dulling or smoothing from use, and light marking or ageing to the hardware.
