This is about as close as you’ll get to buying a new Fender American Vintage II ’72 Telecaster Thinline without paying the new price.

 

A 2025 USA-made example, originally purchased as a gift for a player who ultimately decided he preferred playing acoustic. As a result, it has seen virtually no use and remains in exceptional, near-mint condition, complete with its original Fender hard case, paperwork, Certificate of Authenticity and case candy.

 

Even the factory plastics remain intact. If you’ve been considering a new American Vintage II, this one represents a substantial saving against the £2,549 RRP at £1,795.

 

And what a Telecaster it is.

 

American Vintage II

 

Fender’s American Vintage II series is built around recreating significant instruments from Fender’s history with an impressive level of period-correct detail.

 

This model takes us straight back to 1972, pairing the distinctive semi-hollow Thinline construction with a pair of CuNiFe Wide Range humbuckers, a one-piece maple neck and that unmistakable oversized pearloid pickguard.

 

The 3-Colour Sunburst over the semi-hollow ash body is superb, particularly alongside the maple neck and pearloid guard. At just 7lb exactly, it’s also a beautifully manageable example.

 

CuNiFe Wide Range Humbuckers

 

A huge part of the character of the original ‘70s Thinline was its Wide Range humbuckers, and the American Vintage II uses Fender’s Authentic CuNiFe Wide Range Humbucking pickups.

 

The original Wide Range design is closely associated with legendary pickup designer Seth Lover, and the CuNiFe-equipped recreation gives this Telecaster a character all of its own.

 

There’s plenty of warmth and body, but without losing the definition and clarity that makes a great Tele so addictive. It’s a brilliant alternative for someone who loves Fender ergonomics and response but wants something fuller and broader than the traditional Telecaster single-coil sound.

 

1972-Spec Neck

 

The one-piece maple neck features Fender’s period-inspired 1972 “C” profile, paired with a vintage-style 7.25” fingerboard radius and 21 frets.

 

It deliberately retains the feel and proportions associated with the early-’70s originals rather than turning the guitar into a modern interpretation wearing vintage clothes.

 

Other period-inspired details include the Pure Vintage Fender “F” stamped tuners, bone nut and vintage-style hardware.

 

Condition

 

This guitar is exceptional.

 

Manufactured in 2025 and purchased new as a gift, it has seen extremely little use. The recipient ultimately preferred playing acoustic guitar, leaving this essentially untouched.

 

There are no notable dings, chips or cosmetic damage to mention. At most, you may find the very light handling traces inevitable on an instrument that has been taken from its case, but it genuinely presents about as close to new as we could reasonably describe a pre-owned guitar.

 

Importantly, the original protective plastics remain in place.

 

It comes with its original Fender hard case, which is equally superb, along with the Certificate of Authenticity, paperwork and accompanying case contents shown in the photographs.
