Spira are producing some phenomenal modern guitars, with a real focus on high-performance playability, heavier styles and specifications that would normally sit on instruments costing considerably more. The S-407 MBK is a perfect example: roasted woods, locking tuners, a 26.5” scale, 24 jumbo frets and custom high-output pickups, all wrapped up in a beautifully understated satin black finish.

 

This is the seven-string S-407 MBK, built for players wanting extended range without ending up with something cumbersome or overcomplicated. The 26.5” scale gives the lower strings the extra tension they need, while the Modern D neck profile and 14” radius keep the guitar quick and comfortable across the entire fretboard.

 

The body is made from roasted poplar, paired with a Canadian roasted maple neck. It gives the guitar a solid, resonant feel while also providing the stability you want from a modern extended-range instrument.

 

The Hi-Grade Ebony Tech fingerboard carries 24 jumbo frets, giving plenty of room for bends, fast runs and more technical playing. Combined with the longer scale length, it feels purpose-built for modern metal and lower tunings.

 

Electronics are handled by a pair of Spira Villain custom-made 7-string humbuckers. These ceramic pickups are rated at 12k output and have been designed for power without losing definition — plenty of punch for heavily driven rhythm work, while retaining clarity when things get lower and more complex.

 

Black locking machine heads, a fixed string-through hardtail bridge and all-black hardware complete the stripped-back look beautifully.
