Epiphone Inspired by Gibson J-45 Cutaway Electro-Acoustic – Aged Vintage Sunburst – Hiscox Hard Case
£599.00 – Includes Hiscox Hard Case (Originally Cost £150)
A Cherished Example of Epiphone’s All-Solid J-45 Cutaway
There’s something timeless about a sunburst J-45, and this beautiful Epiphone Inspired by Gibson J-45 Cutaway captures that appeal wonderfully.
Finished in a rich Aged Vintage Sunburst, this is an attractive example of Epiphone’s Inspired by Gibson acoustic range, combining traditional construction, all-solid tonewoods and Fishman electronics with the added practicality of a cutaway body.
The original Gibson J-45 was introduced in 1942 and earned its reputation as the legendary ‘Workhorse’. Its distinctive round-shouldered body, warm acoustic character and comfortable playing feel have made it one of the most recognisable acoustic designs in history.
Epiphone’s Inspired by Gibson version pays tribute to that heritage, offering a serious acoustic instrument with many of the traditional construction details associated with the original design.
This particular guitar has clearly been cherished by its previous owner. It presents beautifully overall, with light signs of use and a set of replacement Wilkinson tuning machines, detailed below.
Also included is a quality Hiscox hard case, originally costing £150, making this an appealing package at £599.
Solid Sitka Spruce & Solid Mahogany
One of the biggest attractions of this model is its entirely solid-wood body construction.
The solid Sitka spruce top is paired with solid mahogany back and sides, a classic combination prized for warmth, clarity and dynamic response.
Sitka spruce provides definition and projection, responding beautifully whether played gently with the fingers or more enthusiastically with a pick. The mahogany adds a rounded midrange and a pleasing richness to the overall sound.
The traditional round-shoulder dreadnought body produces a full acoustic voice, with plenty of presence for accompanying vocals and the sensitivity needed for more delicate arrangements.
Internally, quarter-sawn spruce bracing supports the soundboard, while a traditional tapered dovetail neck joint reflects the thoughtful construction of this model.
Visually, the guitar is equally appealing. Its warm amber centre fades into a deep vintage sunburst around the edges, complemented by cream binding, a tortoiseshell-style pickguard and understated mother-of-pearl fingerboard markers.
Comfortable Rounded C Neck & Cutaway Body
The mahogany neck features a comfortable Rounded C profile, offering a reassuring feel without being excessively bulky.
A laurel fingerboard with a 12-inch radius and 20 medium-jumbo frets provides a familiar playing surface, while the shorter 24.72-inch scale length contributes to a relaxed, comfortable feel.
Unlike the traditional non-cutaway J-45, this model incorporates a neatly integrated cutaway, giving easier access to the higher frets.
It’s a particularly useful addition for players who enjoy lead passages and melodic arrangements but still want the warmth and presence of a round-shoulder acoustic.
Fishman Presys II Electronics
For amplified playing, this J-45 Cutaway is equipped with a Fishman Sonicore undersaddle pickup and Fishman Presys II preamp.
The system makes it easy to connect the guitar to an acoustic amplifier, PA system or recording interface, with onboard controls for volume, bass, treble and phase.
There’s also a built-in electronic tuner, making it a convenient instrument for rehearsals, recording and live performance.
Wilkinson Tuning Machines
The previous owner has fitted a set of Wilkinson tuning machines in place of the original factory tuners.
These have an attractive chrome finish and provide convenient tuning adjustment.
As the originals used a different mounting arrangement, the previous screw holes remain visible on the rear of the headstock. These have been photographed clearly so buyers can see the modification.
Condition
This is a cherished, well-cared-for used guitar that remains in very attractive overall condition.
The body retains its beautiful Aged Vintage Sunburst finish, with some minor signs of previous use, including light playwear, small surface scratches and occasional handling marks.
There is a mark on the front of the headstock near the D-string tuning post, together with some other light surface marks visible under direct lighting.
The original tuning machines have been replaced with Wilkinsons, leaving the previous mounting holes visible on the rear of the headstock.
These are the main points worth noting, and we’ve included detailed photographs so buyers can assess the cosmetic condition for themselves.
Overall, a lovely-looking instrument that has clearly been enjoyed and looked after.
