A beautiful Japanese-made Fender Telecaster has joined our Chordplay Japan Select collection!

This is a 2009 Fender Japan TL-STD/CAR, finished in a stunning Candy Apple Red metallic with a maple neck, matching maple fingerboard and traditional white pickguard.

Manufactured in Japan as part of Fender’s J-Craft Standard range, the TL-STD combines the familiar Telecaster design with the craftsmanship and attention to detail for which Japanese Fender instruments have become so well regarded.

This particular example is in very good condition, with just light cosmetic signs of use. The Candy Apple Red finish has a lovely depth to it, and the guitar presents beautifully.

Fender Japan TL-STD – The Japanese Standard Telecaster

The TL-STD was part of Fender Japan’s Standard Series, offering the classic Telecaster design with a combination of traditional Fender styling and practical, modern appointments.

While some Japanese Fender models were designed as detailed vintage reissues, the TL-STD took a more straightforward approach.

Its basswood body, maple neck, traditional single-coil pickups and six-saddle bridge provide the familiar Telecaster sound and feel, with the additional adjustability of modern hardware.

These models were primarily associated with the Japanese domestic market and have become an appealing alternative to the more commonly encountered Mexican-made Fender guitars.

Beautiful Candy Apple Red Metallic Finish

Fender’s Candy Apple Red is a classic metallic colour that has appeared on some wonderful instruments over the years.

On this particular Telecaster, the deep red finish has a rich, reflective appearance that changes slightly depending on the light.

It’s complemented by a traditional white pickguard, chrome hardware and a maple fingerboard with black dot position markers.

The combination is particularly attractive, giving the guitar a slightly more colourful appearance than the traditional Butterscotch Blonde and sunburst Telecasters.

The TL-STD features a maple neck with a maple fingerboard and 21 vintage-style frets.

The neck has a comfortable oval profile, providing a familiar Fender feel that’s suitable for both rhythm and lead playing.

A 648mm / 25.5-inch scale length gives the instrument its traditional Fender string tension and response.

The fingerboard has a radius of approximately 250mm, while the 42mm nut width provides comfortable spacing for chords and individual notes.

This particular guitar has been set up with a low, comfortable action, with the previous Japanese seller recording approximately 1.8mm at the 12th fret on both the first and sixth strings.

At approximately 3.33kg, it’s also a comfortable weight for a solid-body Telecaster.

Six-Saddle Bridge & Reliable Hardware

Unlike some vintage-style Telecasters fitted with traditional three-saddle bridges, the TL-STD uses a modern six-saddle design.

This allows each string’s intonation to be adjusted individually, providing greater flexibility when setting up the guitar.

The traditional string-through-body construction retains the familiar feel and response of the Telecaster.

Chrome sealed tuning machines and the classic Fender control layout complete a straightforward, dependable instrument.

This 2009 Fender Japan TL-STD is in very good overall condition and presents beautifully.

The Candy Apple Red metallic finish retains a lovely shine, and the guitar has clearly been looked after.

There are some very light surface scratches, minor white marks, handling marks and small signs of normal playing use, as you would expect from a guitar of this age.

There is no notable damage, and the guitar remains an exceptionally attractive example.

The maple neck and fingerboard look very clean, and the hardware presents nicely with light signs of age and handling.

The guitar plays very well, with comfortable action and the familiar feel of a Japanese Fender Telecaster.
