This is the Epiphone Les Paul Standard 50s Figured Inspired by Gibson in Cardinal Red, combining classic late-50s Les Paul styling with an AAA flame maple veneer, chunky 1959-inspired neck profile and Epiphone’s excellent ProBucker pickups.

 

Our example is an ex-demo guitar in mint condition. It has been on display and may show the very slightest handling signs associated with this, but it presents exceptionally well throughout with no notable damage or wear.

 

It also weighs in at approximately 9lb 0.2oz, giving it that reassuring traditional Les Paul feel without becoming excessively heavy.

 

Cardinal Red & AAA Flame Maple

 

The Cardinal Red finish is superb in person. Underneath the gloss finish sits an AAA flame maple veneer over a maple-capped mahogany body, giving the guitar its classic Les Paul visual character while the cream binding, cream plastics and amber control knobs complete the vintage look.

 

The mahogany back is beautifully finished too, with the traditional single-cut construction and long-tenon glued neck joint contributing to the familiar Les Paul sustain and resonance.

 

1959 Rounded Medium C Neck

 

Epiphone has gone for a decidedly traditional feel here.

 

The mahogany neck uses a 1959 Rounded Medium C profile, offering a fuller grip than the slimmer profiles found on many modern Les Pauls. It is paired with a laurel fingerboard, cream binding, pearloid trapezoid inlays and 22 medium-jumbo frets.

 

If you like the substantial feel associated with late-50s Les Pauls, this is very much in that territory.

 

ProBucker Pickups & 50s Wiring

 

A pair of Epiphone ProBuckers provides the electronics:
