Washburn may not be the first name that springs to mind when discussing high-performance metal guitars, but the Parallaxe series changed that completely. Built to compete with the likes of Ibanez, Jackson, ESP LTD and Schecter, the PXS10FRQTR arrived with genuinely professional-grade hardware straight from the factory, meaning there was no need for the usual upgrades.

This is a fantastic example that’s been well looked after and remains in good used condition. It shows honest signs of use with light play wear, surface marks and cosmetic blemishes as pictured, but nothing that detracts from its performance or appearance. The mahogany body is topped with a beautifully figured quilted maple veneer finished in Transparent Red, while the ultra-fast maple neck features Washburn’s renowned Stephen’s Extended Cutaway, providing exceptional access to the highest frets. Combined with an ebony fingerboard, super jumbo frets and a slim modern profile, it’s a guitar that feels every bit as impressive as its specification suggests.

Unlike many guitars in this price bracket, Washburn didn’t cut corners. Factory specifications include an Original Floyd Rose tremolo with oversized brass sustain block, Seymour Duncan Jazz neck pickup, Seymour Duncan Distortion bridge pickup, Grover 18:1 tuners, a locking nut and the highly respected Buzz Feiten Tuning System for improved tuning accuracy and intonation.

Tonally it’s incredibly versatile. The Seymour Duncan Jazz delivers warm, articulate cleans with impressive clarity, while the Distortion humbucker produces tight, aggressive rhythm tones and singing lead sounds with excellent sustain. A push/pull series-parallel switch expands the tonal palette further, allowing brighter single coil-inspired sounds alongside the traditional humbucking voices.
